Changes

I decided this weekend that posting 5 times a week when I’m experiencing blogger burnout or writers block (take your pick really) is getting too hard. I really don’t want to be posting something I’m trying to pass off as good writing when really it’s just me posting to post. Complete waste of my and your time. So I’m moving to an M, W, F schedule for the mean time. Hopefully this will leave me more time to comment on other people’s blogs too-I haven’t been doing the greatest at this so I’m hoping to fix that now. Just so you know though, I’m at least reading what other people are writing and enjoying the posts!
I’ll be taking out the spending recap as that really isn’t quality writing either. Don’t get me wrong-it was extremely helpful in helping me see where my money went so instead, once a month, I’ll be doing the same thing but on a larger scale. I’m hoping with that, and my going grocery shopping every week, extra money spending will be cut down. I’ll try it out for two months or three months. That should really show me how my changes are working and if I need to go back to the old way or if I can stay doing that.
I will still be doing my goals posts as that is also a once a month type thing and has been helping me out a lot. You know, provided that my situation doesn’t change in the middle of the month (more on that Wednesday) and I pay attention to them.
Link love? I might change this to a once a month thing or stick with what I’ve been doing but limit it down to 5-10. And for my Insanity updates? You’ll be getting those on Monday’s same as usual.
Speaking of…Insanity Update
Finally officially completed week 1 of month 2. It’s been a different pace entirely or so I feel. I know that, logically speaking, the workouts only increased by 10-15 minutes but try telling that to my body! I still love it though. And really 10-15 minutes as an increase in working out at max interval training? Feels like a life time 
How was your weekend?

I’m trying to post less as well. I was experiencing blogger burnout but now it’s better!

  2. Quality over quantity…..I always go with “write what you feel.” If I’m not feeling anything, I don’t write anything. My writing typically comes in bunches. Days I don’t feel anything new to start I usually have something half done to tweak. Don’t burn yourself out, friend…..always enjoy visiting your blog. 🙂

Thanks Travis! When I’m in the mood to write, I notice that I can crank out about 1.5 articles (or more) but lately I’m struggling to get one out.

Sorry to hear that you’re feeling burnout. Hopefully writing a bit less is exactly what you need. Regardless, I always love reading what you write!

My weekend was filled with homework, as usual 🙂 You are thisclose to convincing me to try Insanity!

  4. We worked this weekend so it wasn’t that great. Now we have the next three weekends off!

    Have a great week!

  5. It helps to kind of rearrange things every once in awhile to avoid burnout. I used to be kind of stressed about making sure I posted regularly, but I’ve loosened up a bit about that. Now I just post when I feel like it and have time, and make sure my other priorities are taken care of first. I may lose readers and “numbers,” but what does it really matter for an unsponsored blog in the long run? Anyway, glad to hear you are keeping up with Insanity! Congrats!

    • bogofdebt says:

I used to post 6/7 days a week back when it was mainly a diary but went to five pretty quickly 🙂 And yes, I need to make sure my “real life” comes first. And I don’t think you’ll lose the readers who matter 🙂

  6. Hey Bog – it can take a lot out of you! I’ve gone anywhere from 3-4 posts a week to just 2 – and sometimes those are just apologies for not posting! 🙂 If you’ve got a lot of other things going on, it’s hard to find the time and motivation to blog as well. I still owe you a guest post..sigh..

  7. I think cutting back is good, otherwise you will feel the burnout even more. We can deal with three times a week 🙂 And congrats on making month 2 of insanity, it is a crazy crazy workout ! I bet you are looking and feeling way better already!

    • bogofdebt says:

Oh I love it-my clothes are fitting me a lot better I’ve noticed. I’ve barely lost “weight” but I’m much more tone (toner? toned?) and feel a lot better.

I hear ya on the burnout thing. I’ve cut back to posting randomly, although I would like to do a MWF schedule. My shoulder is finally getting back to normal so I should be able to start working out again. Congrats on making it to the second month of Insanity. I’m thinking about doing the P90 again this winter along with some cardio. Hope you have a good month.

    • bogofdebt says:

I’m glad you’re shoulder is on the mend! Long term injuries suck. I like the schedule for me because I’m less likely to go “oh I can skip this day” and before I knew it, 2 months later…..

I agree with Travis…Quality over quantity. In the long run it should help any burnout you’re experiencing. I worked as well this weekend, but then again we run our own business so it’s a bit of an occupational hazard.

  10. There’s no rush to the finish line because it doesn’t exisit. What does exisit is what is real so do what makes you feel comfortable and what you are proud of. Thanks for keeping us updated mate.. and the workouts.. they will get longer and better overtime.. just motivate and push yourself to the next level. Mr.CBB

I was pleasantly surprised when we cut back out schedule several months ago. My traffic actually went up on my site. I think part of this was that I spent more time out in the community. I think this is a great move.

    • bogofdebt says:

That is what I’m hoping will happen. I hate feeling rushed to write a decent article, answer my comments, (check spam 😉 ), and comment on other people’s sites..Oh and try to make time for twitter and facebook. This is something I enjoy doing and I don’t want it to become a chore. So cutting back will help out (I hope!).

  12. I’ve found that I’ve had to do the same thing- my posts have gone from 3 a week to around 1 a week. You have to do what’s necessary for you!

  13. My weekend, which is spilling over into the week, was trying. 2/3 kids had head lice, 1/3 kids had strep, too much family drama to even write about, and so today I’ve got to keep the strep/lice kid away from the baby. I might not even be able to write 1 post this week. I think 3x week is plenty! Any more and it’s hard to keep the content fresh and interesting, you know?

    • bogofdebt says:

Oh man! Sorry you hare having the family drama! And yes, I want the content fresh-not where I have to search through my archives going “didn’t I write this already?” Hope your kiddos feel better soon.

  14. I’m right there with you. Except I’m only at 3 times a week! Glad you’ve made some decisions to help reduce a bit of stress. 🙂

    • bogofdebt says:

Well I figure no one is going to want to read what I’m forcing myself to write so it’ll be better if I just let it come. Some weekend I’m going to try to get ahead…eventually 😉

  15. Yup I had to switch from 5 days to 3 and omg what a difference! No longer waking up in the middle of the night thinking “Do I have a post scheduled for tomorrow?”

  16. I’m posting 4 days a week and that isn’t too bad because they are spaced out but M-F would definitely be a challenge for me. Good luck with getting your blogging groove back!

  17. mrsplungedindebt says:

3x a week is totally enough, don’t stress yourself out, not worth it 🙂 I’m defiantly going to have to make changes when I go back to work FT and have no internet access!! MWF will make your readers look forward to your posts that much more 😉

  18. Always try to avoid the blogger burnout! I try to post M,W,F as well but sometimes I get overwhelmed and it turns into T, Thurs, and link love on Friday. No worries, I’d rather read three high quality posts from you in a week than five rushed ones.

  19. Three times a week is a nice sustainable level. I aim for two or three times a week, with my rotating days dedicated to reading others’ blogs, commenting, tweeting, forums, etc. Life just feels so hectic right now!

    • bogofdebt says:

Hectic is one word for it! And I don’t even have kids yet 😉 I do need to get better at commenting on other peoples sites and the forums. I try to keep up but than get behind on writing which means I don’t get to comment and it just never ends

  20. Writing and networking is a ton of work. I burned out after 3 months or trying to do it all everyday as well. 2 or 3 times a week is good. It gives you a chance to refresh and have a life as well. 🙂
