Spending Recap 8/6-8/12

Monday $170 car (b)

Tuesday $25 Walgreens

Wednesday no spend day

Thursday no spend day

Friday $25 dinner (d)

Saturday $187 groceries (b), $40 gas (b), $25 haircut (p), $25 groceries

Sunday no spend day

At least most of it was planned or budgeted for and I still had three no spend days which are always nice to have.  On Monday, we had to do the back breaks for the car and a rotation.  They only charged me for the breaks because they forgot to write it down that they did the rotation.  I honestly couldn’t tell you if they rotated the tires or not.  I’m assuming they did but I would have assumed they did even if they charged me for it.  And by the way-paying cash to get this fixed without worrying about how it was going to affect my budget? Felt as great this time as it did the first time!

Still working on my grocery budget but I figure spending $400-$500 a month is okay—it’s not just our food as we buy house stuff, kitty stuff and personal hygiene stuff with it.  Right now, we’re just sticking with making our meal list, pantry list and grocery list.  Not too much in stock piling unless I get a great deal (for instance, I bought 5 meals worth of chicken for only $6—and I portioned it out for meals and froze it) and even then, I tend to not buy after as it goes on my pantry list.  It’s really helped keep everything in check so far.  It just sucks because every time I think something is going well, we run out of something—like olive oil or toilet paper. We’ll get there though.

Insanity Update

I’m honestly insane.  I’m freely admitting it though.  I did week two and was completely drained by the end of it.  Part of that comes from continuing to keep up my running and the other part comes from being able to pushing myself just a little farther each day.  I LOVE the program.  I will be doing the second week over again though.  I told my fiancé I’d do it with him as he ended up with poison ivy at the end of week 1.  Not being able to sweat without making the oil spread kind of meant no working out—this program really makes you sweat.

Right now I’m able to do the first section of the warm up and part of the second before having to take a small break.  Yes, the warm up.  When they say that their warm up is like someone else’s workout, they are not kidding. I did my first cardio abs section and I really wanted to crawl into my bed afterwards!

Other than that? I barely did anything this weekend and it felt great.  I think the last few weekends of doing so much meant that I just needed a couple where I just stayed at home and watched TV.  (and worked out) How was your weekend?

  1. We had a nice relaxing weekend. We took the kids to a wedding reception, swimming, and to get ice cream. It was great! I am sad that summer is winding down =(

    Have a great week!

I’m sad about that too–I didn’t go swimming this weekend or the last one. It hasn’t been as hot as it was (which is nice) but that means I’m less motivated to drive out to go swimming I guess 😦

  2. I’m glad you’re loving Insanity! Good work! I’m still working on keeping my grocery budget lower too, and like you I also include some non-grocery items, like shampoo, conditioner, etc in my budget. It’s hard for me to make cuts there.

I must have missed something – week two of what? A running program? Or a work out program?

  4. Do you find that doing a program like Insanity helps you to form discipline with both your health and your finances, or do you not really see a difference since you were already running?

I’m so sorry! You were in spam land and I missed this! I think that exercise in general is helping me get a handle of my finances. Insanity is definitely helping as I find myself even less inclined to want to go splurge at a fast food place now. It also keeps me busy so I’ve turned away from renting a movie knowing I wouldn’t have the time to watch it within the day (I get a $2 credit if I return it after one day if it’s a new release) so I’m waiting for it to come out on Netflix. And getting control of my finances is helping me with my exercise habits as well. The “it’s only $5” spending I used to do could be translated to “it’s only one workout I’m missing.” It would all add up. Now I really have to be sick in order to miss a workout.

  5. Insanity.. I tried it for a day and I could not move for 2 days. And all I did was the initial fitness test. One day I will try it again !! Good work on keeping up with it, it’s a really tough program.

  6. Great job keeping up with the running WHILE doing Insanity. You will be very deserving of that shirt!

  7. I’ve never done Insanity but my dad has literally done every program Tony Horton has created and he’s in awesome shape. Keep it up!

Thanks! And I keep telling Shaun T (the dude from Insanity) that we aren’t friends anymore. As I’m telling a tv screen and have never met him in my life, I think he’s okay with it 😉

  8. Wow, great work! I’m most proud of the car repair, because yes, preventative maintenance is wonderful!

    • bogofdebt says:

It is and I am hoping that we don’t have to do anything for a while. We really need a new car (the owner before us didn’t do anything and it shows in how it runs now)

  9. I’ve heard the Insanity program is well…..insanely intense. Looking forward to following along with you and your #pfworkouts to see how you like it!

  10. Insanity sounds … well, insane. I don’t think I could do that! You’re relaxing weekend sounds nice! I spent every waking hour at some family event or another, at least it seemed that way!

  11. iheartbudgets says:

We got a lot done with the patio this. We’re actually planning on (mostly) finishing today and having our first glass of wine on it! YAY!

We’ve got half a bottle of ’09 Pinot Noir waiting for us 🙂

  12. Congrats on the three no spend days AND week 2 of insanity! I’ve heard that that program really is insane but I’d love to try it sometime.

  13. AverageJoe says:

I have friends who do Insanity and have had similar thoughts, but they love it too. Some day…maybe…..

  14. I love lazy weekends! I think they should be mandatory! 😉

    • bogofdebt says:

I would also like there to be a third weekend day. I’m okay with a 5 day work week but would love them to add an 8th day! This way I can run errands/busy work/hang out with friends on day 1, clean on day 2 and do nothing on day 3.

  15. Mike says:

Any sense of Insanity vs. P90X? I’ve done the latter.
